Interactive Maps - Frequent Questions

Common Reasons for Error Messages

  • Close Window after error message.Once you have received an error message, you need to close the map window, and return to the http://gis.stlouisco.com page to open a new window.
  • 20 Minute Idle Limit. There is a 20 minute session idle limit. If you have the application open but inactive for 20 minutes, you will get an error when you resume. This limit is to conserve system resources.
  • Condominiums. There are inherent limitations to our ability to display Condominium properties. With Condominiums, multiple properties share the same two dimensional representation in our map base. There may be 200 condominium parcels that share the same "space" on the map. Each of the 200 properties has a tabular record, but only one is shown on the map. If you are inquiring about the other 199, you will receive an error message. The same is true of "improvements-only" property records, which frequently are found with cell phone towers.
  • Update Problems. There may be disjunctions between the status of property records and map data. A new property data tabular record may show up when selecting by address, but if the map data is not as up to date, an error message will result.
  • Print Window Problems

  • Printing Problems- Internet Explorer 7 Web Browser. The pop-up blocker prevents the print window from displaying. To see the print window, press the CTRL and ALT keys while clicking on the print button. You can avoid having to do this by going to Tools | Pop-Up Blocker | Pop-Up Blocker Settings in the Internet Explorer menu. Type "gis.stlouisco.com" into the text box of "allowed sites", and press the Add button. The print button should then work without needing the CTRL + ALT keys. Note the addition of the ALT key. The reason for the change is that IE7 uses the CTRL key for tabs.
  • Printing Problems- Internet Explorer 6 Web Browser. The pop-up blocker installed with SP2 prevents the print window from displaying. To see the print window, press the CTRL key while clicking on the print button. You can avoid having to do this by going to Tools | Pop-Up Blocker | Pop-Up Blocker Settings in the Internet Explorer menu. Type "gis.stlouisco.com" into the text box, and press the Add button. The print button should then work without needing the CTRL key.
  • Printing Problems- FireFox/Mozilla Web Browser. The FireFox pop-up blocker prevents the print window from displaying. To see the print window, press the CTRL key while clicking on the print button. We have seen cases where this does not work. If so, go to Tools | Options on the FireFox browser menu, and click the "Allowed Sites" button next to the "block popup windows" check box. Type "gis.stlouisco.com" into the text box, and press the OK button. The print button should then work without needing the CTRL key.
  • Once you get an error message of any kind, you have to start a new browser window.

  • Note to Windows 2000 Users: Windows 2000 users with Internet Explorer 6.0 and security update 832894, will have problems with this and other web sites. See Microsoft's solution for this problem. Windows XP users not affected.
  • Internet Explorer Privacy Settings:If you have Internet Explorer Privacy Settings set to "High", you may experience problems. Change the Privacy Setting to "Medium".
